1920-1921

1920-The baseball gods were not smiling on the Detroit Tigers. Finishing with a record of 61-93 the Detroit Tigers ended the baseball yaer in seventh place 37 games behind the Cleveland Indians.

Ty Cobb failed to win the batting crown hitting .334. Bobby Veech led the club with 113 RBIs. Howard Ehmke led the pitching staff with 15 wins but also had 18 losses.

1921-The Detroit Baseball Tigers won 10 more games than the previous season finishing with a record of 71-82 and in sixth place 27 games behind the New York Yankees. Hitting was not a problem as the Tigers had the highest team hit total and batting average in American League history. The Tigers had 1,724 hit and a team batting average of .316. Harry Heilman hit .394 to win the first of what would become four batting titles. Ty Cobb finished second hitting .389.

Pitching was the weakness of this baseball club. With a team ERA of 4.40 the Tiger pitching staff allowed nine or more runs 28 times and had only one pitcher (Dutch Leonard) with an ERA below 4.24.

Of note: Ty Cobb takes over as manager of the Detroit Tigers as a player/manager.
